In most cases, equipment will be picked up in 24 - 48 hours.Samaritan employees cannot accept or transfer medical equipment (e.g. walker, shower chairs, canes, etc.) or supplies (diapers, chux, etc.) from patients or families. Your nurse or social worker can provide you with a resource list that can be used when you need equipment or have equipment to donate.Home Safety GuidelinesAt Samaritan, we are committed to your personal well-being and your general safety. We offer the following suggestions:PREVENTING FALLS%u2022 Throw rugs, mats, and runners should have non-slip backing. If not, remove them or use double-faced adhesive tape under them.%u2022 Rugs with fringe on edges are especially easy to trip on.%u2022 Waxed and highly polished floors look nice, but they can be dangerous - especially when wet.%u2022 Keep stairways, halls, and exits free of clutter, such as toys, shoes, boxes, etc.%u2022 Stairways should have sturdy railings and banisters.%u2022 Stairways and halls should be well lit. Light switches should be located at both the top and bottom of stairways.%u2022 Electrical cords and oxygen tubing stretched across household traffic areas could cause a fall.%u2022 Arrange furniture near outlets.%u2022 Wear non-slip slippers or shoes when walking rather than going barefoot.%u2022 Use devices that have been recommended/provided for your safety such as walkers, cane, wheelchair.BATHROOM SAFETY%u2022 Use rubber mats or non-slip strips in bathtub and on shower floor.%u2022 Safety grab bars in tubs or shower can assist with getting in and out safely.%u2022 Do not use soap dish handle or towel rack as a grab bar for support as they are not sturdy enough.%u2022 Safety grab bars and/or an elevated toilet seat can be helpful in getting up and down more easily.%u2022 Use a bath or shower seat with non-skid tips if you are weak or unsteady on your feet.EQUIPMENT PROBLEMSPlease call your hospice nurse if you have questions on how to use equipment.
