                                    SamaritanNJ.org 31special instructions for use. %u2022 Please be sure to read this information carefully and direct any questions you may have to your Samaritan nurse or to your doctor.%u2022 Please report any actual or suspected side effects to your Samaritan nurse as soon as possible.%u2022 The nurse will work closely with your doctor and the other members of your hospice care team to develop and adjust a medication regimen that will meet your special needs.COMFORT KITSamaritan provides a %u201cComfort Kit%u201d which contains emergency prescribed medication to treat symptoms quickly such as pain, nausea and vomiting, anxiety, agitation, shortness of breath, seizures, and secretions at the back of the throat.The kit is sealed and should be left in the refrigerator until you are directed to use it by your Samaritan team.Your nurse will review the medicines in the comfort kit. The doses are low to start and are increased as needed. Please call Samaritan before starting any medicines in the comfort kit. Your care team will guide you on how to take the medications.MEDICATION SAFETYYour medications are ordered just for you to meet your specific needs. It is extremely important that no one but you take any of your medications.%u2022 Training: Your hospice team will provide training about if and when you need more medication.%u2022 Take medications exactly as directed by your doctor and hospice nurse.%u2022 Store all of your medications in a safe place away from children, visitors, and pets.%u2022 Do not use any medications that are outdated or expired.%u2022 Ask your hospice nurse how to dispose of any medications that you are no longer using or that are outdated or expired.Notify your Samaritan nurse immediately:%u2022 Before starting, changing or stopping any medication.%u2022 If you think someone else is taking your medication or any of your medications are missing.%u2022 If you recognize that you are running out of any medication and will need a refill delivered to your home.MEDICATION DISPOSAL*Please See Separate Flyer For Additional Disposal Instructions.You can help prevent injury, illness, and pollution by following simple steps when you dispose of the sharp objects and contaminated materials you use in health care at home.
