                                    32 Safety and Supplies%u2022 Place needles, syringes, lancets, and other sharp objects in a hard, plastic, puncture-proof container with a screw top or tightly secured lid. %u2022 Use a plastic liquid detergent container such as Wisk or Tide. %u2022 DO NOT put sharp objects in any container that will be recycled or returned to a store. %u2022 DO NOT use glass or clear plastic bottles. %u2022 DO NOT use soda or milk bottles. %u2022 Make sure that you keep containers with sharp objects out of the reach of children and pets. %u2022 When the container is %u00be full or no longer needed, place it in a securely fastened plastic bag and put it in the garbage with other trash.SUPPLIES AND MEDICAL EQUIPMENTSamaritan provides the practical support necessary to help you receive care at home. This includes identifying and obtaining medical equipment, supplies, and medications you may need. Samaritan does not discriminate based upon ability to pay and will utilize all available resources to ensure that each patient receives the supplies and/or equipment necessary for care.Samaritan stocks specific brands and sizes of equipment and supplies. If you request supplies not essential to the plan of care or a brand not supplied by Samaritan, a team member will provide you with a list of resources where you may obtain these items at your own expense. Your hospice nurse will work with you to identify equipment and/or supplies necessary to meet the goals of the plan of care.Essential medical supplies are defined as one brand of fitted disposable diapers, bed protectors (chux pads), bedpans, and urinals.Supplies necessary for care related to your admitting diagnosis may include ostomy supplies, dressings, mouth swabs, irrigation kits, foley catheters, disposable gloves, and suction equipment.Samaritan will not accept financial responsibility for:%u2022 Medications, supplies, or medical equipment you purchase without prior approval from the hospice nurse or manager.%u2022 Some over-the-counter medications or preparations.You will be educated about safety and effective use of medical equipment by the equipment company and that education will be reinforced by your hospice nurse. Education includes basic purpose, operating instructions %u2013 including what to do if you have problems, and safety precautions.Medical equipment related to your progressive illness and related to the current plan of care may include electric bed, low air loss mattress, bedside commode, oxygen, over-bed table, bed-side rails, wheelchair, walker, suction machine, and nebulizer.
