6 Your Hospice Team EVENING & NIGHT-SHIFT NURSEThese nurses address your problems or concerns over the telephone during evenings, overnights, and weekends, and may visit you when your needs change.SOCIAL WORKERYour social worker provides counseling and support to help you and your family cope with your progressive illness. They help you access community resources, assist with insurance questions, offer assistance with advance directives, and will be a supportive and knowledgeable guide throughout your hospice admission.SPIRITUAL SUPPORT COUNSELORYour spiritual support counselor offers listening, prayer, and culturally sensitive, nondenominational counseling with respect to all faiths. Your spiritual support counselor can help you cope with the hard questions, unknowns, and realities of what your journey may bring. BEREAVEMENT COUNSELORYour bereavement counselor offers grief counseling and coordinates other services for individuals and families who are coping with, or anticipating, the loss of a loved one.COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIESThe benefits of complementary therapies translate into improved quality of life. Samaritan offers massage therapy, music therapy, pet therapy, and aromatherapy in select locations. Please ask your hospice nurse about availability.VOLUNTEERYour patient/family support volunteer offers companionship, chatting, reading, watching TV, playing games, and sharing stories. These hospice-trained volunteers stay with you during scheduled times.Other consultants available to you as indicated in your hospice plan of care.IDENTIFYING YOUR HOSPICE PROFESSIONALS WHEN THEY VISITFor your safety and protection, all employees and volunteers associated with Samaritan must wear identification badges. Before allowing anyone to enter your home, make sure he/she is wearing an identification badge that matches this image.
