Caring for YourselfAs a caregiver, family member, or friend of someone facing the end of life, you may also experience anxiety and sadness. It%u2019s important to also address your needs and take care of yourself during this journey.%u2022 Let family members share responsibilities; TAKE A BREAK.%u2022 Consider a home health aide for help with personal care (discuss with nurse).%u2022 Consider Samaritan volunteers (discuss with nurse or social worker).%u2022 Consider a support group (discuss with social worker).%u2022 Consult your family doctor.%u2022 Take care of yourself; do not neglect your own health needs, medications, sleep and eating. Let your hospice team know how you are feeling so they can help.%u2022 Do something positive for yourself.%u2022 Identify what you need and ask for it. Learn to say no when you need to.%u2022 Call a friend.%u2022 Utilize relaxation techniques.%u2022 Meditate or pray.%u2022 Take a walk.%u2022 Drink plenty of fluids.
