Please communicate with any member of the team so that he or she can work to meet your goals for comfort.%u2022 Give me pain medicine.%u2022 Can we try a different pain medicine?%u2022 Can my pain medicine be increased or decreased?%u2022 I feel very sleepy, but my pain is still bad.%u2022 Call my family to come and be with me now.%u2022 I want to talk to a counselor.%u2022 Could someone please pray with me?%u2022 I want a back rub.%u2022 I am anxious and scared.%u2022 I need to reposition, get up in the chair, or move about.%u2022 I would like my room darkened and quiet.%u2022 I need to know more about my pain and diagnosis.%u2022 I want to try a cold pack or heating unit.%u2022 I am feeling sick to my stomach.%u2022 I itch all over.We want you to be satisfied with your comfort and pain control. All pain therapies are most effective when you understand them and are a part of making decisions about them.The following pain scales are tools you and your hospice team may use to evaluate pain. If your loved one is unable to communicate, please refer to the non-verbal pain scales on the next page. The PAINAD Scale is particularly helpful for individuals with advanced dementia.
