Refrain from using and have it checked by an electrician.%u2022 Replace frayed or cracked cords.%u2022 Do not keep cords directly under furniture or carpeting.%u2022 The weight of the furniture damages cords; carpeting hides frayed cords.%u2022 Make certain that appliances or electronic equipment with 3-prong grounded plugs are used in 3-prong electrical outlets or with adapter for a 2-prong outlet. A 3-prong plug is a safety feature and exists to lessen the risk of shock and to prevent accidental electrocution.%u2022 Eliminate extension cords and move appliances closer to outlets. Use wiring guides to keep cords out of traffic and work areas. Staples and nails are not safe.%u2022 Too many appliances in one outlet can overload the circuit and cause a fire. Unplug appliances when not in use.%u2022 Keep all cords away from sources of water and heat.%u2022 Use the correct size and type of light bulb for light fixtures. Using a bulb with higher wattage can cause overheating. If you don%u2019t know the proper wattage, be safe and use no more than a 60-watt bulb. Frosted bulbs can reduce glare.%u2022 Use outlet safety covers for child safety.Emergency Preparedness | Be ready to shelter in place.
